FIREFLIES
Summer nights bring fireflies
Near misses in random guise
The universe today is calling
The long days ebbing and ending
Water that never quenches thirst
Thirst for others and endless longing
If we knew of it, would we burst
Burst out crying?
Shadows prowling outside this here Cave
Errant souls aiming at just one save
To meet and to behold at any cost
Those we have thence long lost
Drink, drink of the mighty spring
Do not strive so to hold it in
Through us at best it shall flow
Down our roots and far below
Into all that is everything.
